My Coaching Philosophy

I am a dedicated golf coach with a mission of helping golfers play better. My journey in golf started at the age of 13, and since then it has shaped my coaching philosophy.

This page is a reflection of that journey – from my early years as a junior golfer, to competing in professional tournaments, and ultimately discovering that my true calling is in coaching. Through a personalised approach and my T.S.S. system (Trajectory, Spin, Speed), I’m here to guide you to play better golf, one shot at a time.

"Golf is what the ball does"
- John Jacobs

This quote from a legendary coach encapsulates my philosophy: the focus is always on what the ball does, not on making a certain generic looking swing.

I believe every golfer has a timeless swing in them but there is not one timeless swing for all.

A timeless swing being one that allows for repeatable and functional impact to achieve the desired ball flight which suits your body and keeps it healthy.

My main priority as a coach is simple: I want your golf ball to do exactly what you intend more often and when it matters. I’ve developed what I call the T.S.S. system – throughout our lessons, we’ll work on improving your T.S.S for both your stock and specialty shots to fit the situation presented:

  • Trajectory (both vertically and horizontally)

  • Spin (rate and axis)

  • Speed

The ball is doing these three components on every shot, my job is to breakdown why your ball may do X or Y and coach you to improve it.

How we get there? That depends on you. My coaching philosophy is rooted in structured improvisation – it’s about tailoring coaching techniques that suit you. Every player develops and learns at different speeds and its important to remember a change is complete when you the player can achieves the desired T.S.S on the golf course.

My Golfing Journey:
How It Shaped My Philosophy

p1.png

I picked up golf at 13, and it wasn’t long before I was hooked. I became a junior member at Hampton Court Palace Golf Club, where my obsession with the game took root.

Like many, I dreamed of being a tour professional. I competed in local, national and international amateur tournaments, such as the English, Irish, Swiss and Australian Amateur Championships along the way.

Despite making the cut in 3 out of 4 of these championships with a best tied for 11th in the Irish, it was hard not to notice being off the pace of the winning scores. So the thoughts of being a full time playing professional started to be replaced.

At 21, I began my PGA training at Hampton Court, working as an assistant pro in the shop while continuing to practise and compete alongside.

I hoped I might be a “late bloomer” as a player and in a position of being a full time player once I had completed my PGA training.

During the training I learnt that the shop and retail side of the golf business was not for me, so the day I passed my training I left the shop and became a coach, initially thinking it would give me more time to work on my own game.

It was during this time and under the tuition of Steve Cardy (a brilliant coach in Essex) that my game rapidly improved.

I went on to win 10 professional tournaments in the PGA South region and mini tours, including five out of ten events in the 2020/21 season, such as the Southern PGA Pros and the PGA Kent Open.

Yet, as I found more success on the course, I discovered something unexpected – coaching brought me more satisfaction than playing.

Coaching wasn’t just a career; it became my purpose. I found that helping others improve was far more rewarding than focusing on my own game.

To deepen my knowledge, I reached out to the top coaches I’d encountered over the years. This led to an incredible opportunity: joining Hugh Marr’s Coaching Mastery (Cmas) Programme.

Under his mentorship, I immersed myself fully into coaching, with a singular goal – to help as many golfers as possible improve their game.

So here I am today, still as captivated by the game as I was 20 years ago.

I’m on the course most days, still exploring the mysteries of golf – but now, I get to guide others on their own journeys.

And that’s even more exciting.
